Today, no keynote, we went directly to the sessions. Therefore I have scheduled my day around 3 goals: SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 and Parallel Datawarehouse, with the new features in the release AU3.

Recently, during my many missions, a client asked me to give access rights to the SQL Server Logs from SSMS to his application managers.
As you know, you must give the role “securityadmin” to have such rights but with this role you can also manage logins, CREATE DATABASEs and change passwords.
This is “too many rights” for this IT manager… but no other way!
I have seen at a customer that the SQL Server’s policy doesn’t follow the Microsoft’s recommendations about antivirus and databases(kb 309422), such excluding *.mdf,*.ndf and *.ldf files. In addition the policy for Oracle doesn’t exist in case of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 known as FEP 2010.
I have decided to create databases policies for FEP optimized by dbi services to be generic and adapted to all SQL Server and Oracle environments.
Dynamic management views (DMVs) return server state information that can be used to monitor the health of a server instance, diagnose problems and tune performance.
Since few months, I test the future new version SQL Server 2012 codename Denali and I was very surprised form the news DMVs from this version.
I will just explain some DMVs very interesting for a DBA.
My article is based on msdn web site reference and you find in the end from each chapter a msdn reference for more details of the DMV.
Last week, I attended for the first time the Microsoft TechDays. The 2011 Swiss “edition” took place in Bern. For me it is new challenge, because I newer worked deeply with the Microsoft Database Platform “SQL Server”.
