Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3 PSU: My Opatch version check is failing

By | Database Administration & Monitoring | No Comments

Last day I was configuring grid infrastructure 11.2.0.3 for a standlone server. After the installation, I decided to apply the Patch Set Update 11.2.0.3.7 (Includes Database PSU 11.2.0.3.7) – 16742216 In the documentation it is marked You must use the OPatch utility version 11.2.0.3.4 or later to apply this patch. Verifying my opatch version, I see that I have to update it [root@ ]# ./OPatch/opatch version Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.7 OPatch Version: 11.2.0.1.7 So I download…

Grid Infrastructure 12.2: Are all Redhat 7 kernels compatible?

By | Database Administration & Monitoring | No Comments

In this blog I am going to share an issue I had when installing grid infrastructure 12.2 on Redhat 7.3. I was configuring grid infrastructure 12.2 for a standlone server. Below the release and the version of my operating system root@dbserver /etc $ cat redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.3 (Maipo) root@dbserver ~ $ uname -a Linux dbserver 3.10.0-514.21.2.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun May 28 17:08:21 EDT 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux root@dbserver ~…

Grid Infrastructure Installation on SLES 12 SP1

By | Database Administration & Monitoring | 2 Comments

This week I needed to install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12c release 1 in a SLES 12 SP1 environment. Everything worked fine until I ran the root.sh at the end of the installation. Here’s a quick description of the problem and the workaround. The root.sh script ran into error and the installation was completely unsuccessfull: oracle:/u00/app/grid/12.1.0.2 # /u00/app/grid/12.1.0.2/root.sh Performing root user operation.   The following environment variables are set as:     ORACLE_OWNER= grid     ORACLE_HOME=  /u00/app/grid/12.1.0.2…

DOAG 2016, Schulungstag: Oracle Grid Infrastructure

By | Database Administration & Monitoring | No Comments

Upgrading the Grid Infrastructure from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.2 on the command line

By | Database Administration & Monitoring | 2 Comments

A lot of people use the graphical way to upgrade Oracle software from one version to another. While there is nothing to say against that the same can be done without any graphical tools. This post outlines the steps to do so. Currently my cluster is running Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.1 without any PSU applied. The node names are racp1vm1 and racp2vm2: [grid@racp1vm2 ~]$ /u01/app/12.1.0/grid_1_0/bin/crsctl query crs softwareversion Oracle Clusterware version on node [racp1vm2] is [12.1.0.1.0]…

ODA – VMs possibilities & performances

By | Hardware & Storage | No Comments

As you know it is possible to install the ODA in a virtualized mode and to take avantages from all cores not licensed with Enterprise Edition for additional VMs. The question is what could we do with it and which performances could we expect… The answer to the first question is indeed pretty simple….almost everything. If you have and ODA X5-2 with the version 12.1.2.3.0 implemented in virtualized mode then you are running an OVM…

Oracle Grid Infrastructure: fixing the PRVG-10122 error during installation

By | Database management | 2 Comments

Making errors is human and when you configure a new Oracle Grid Infrastructure environment (especially one with a large number of nodes), mistakes can happen when configuring ASMLIB on all nodes. If you get an error looking like”PRVG-10122 : ASMLib configuration…does not match with cluster nodes”, there is a simple solution to fix it. When you are installing Grid Infrastructure, the following error can occor in cluvfy output or directly in the pre-requisites check step…

Oracle policy managed databases: Policies and policy sets

By | Database management | One Comment

In this post, I will continue my experiments with Oracle policy managed databases with Grid Infrastructure, and present one of the new features introduced with Grid Infrastructure 12c last June: the cluster configuration policies and policy sets. It allows the administrator to dynamically reconfigure all server pools at a time, with a single command, according to the business workload. To take a simple example, imagine you have two servers allocated for your production instances, and…
