Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12c: Binaries installation

By | Operation systems | One Comment

In a previous article, I have shown how to configure two servers in order to deploy a two-nodes 12c cluster. This time, I am going to describe the Grid Infrastructure 12c installation process using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI). We assume that cluvfy tool has returned no errors (see previous blog). Install Grid Infrastructure Connect as grid and launch the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) from /software/grid: $ /software/grid/runInstaller.sh Starting Oracle Universal Installer… Checking Temp space: must…

Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12c: prerequisites for installation

By | Operation systems | 7 Comments

Grid infrastructure 12c has recently been released. In this posting, I will show that the installation prerequisites are quite similar between Grid Infrastructure 11g and 12c. We will see parts of them during a review for the deployment of Grid Infrastructure on a two nodes RAC database cluster. Server hardware requirements Let’s see the hardware part. Oracle Database 12c : démarrage automatique des Pluggable Databases

By | Database management | No Comments

Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2: A disturbing loop in a “ohasd” startup script

By | Operation systems | No Comments

Last February, I performed an operating system rolling upgrade on a four-nodes RAC cluster (11.2.0.2). I then faced a strange problem when restarting the operating system… The first step of the procedure was to stop all Grid Infrastructure and Database services running on the first node as well as to disable Cluster and ASM autostart. The following command is supposed to prevent Oracle High Availability Service (OHAS) to be run at operating system startup: #…

Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) – an overview

By | Operation systems | No Comments

Last february, I had the chance to attend an Oracle presentation about ODA: Oracle Database Appliance. I found it interessant to share what I have learned about this technology. Which, I confess, convinced me. Summary Before developing the software and hardware components, here is a small overview of ODA. ODA is an all in one solution providing Hardware, Operating System, and database components. It comes in a 4U rack server form, composed of two distinct…

Replace a voting disk is so easy with Grid Infrastructure 11.2 & ASM!

By | Hardware & Storage | No Comments

For a few day we had a quick request at a customer which was to replace a voting disk in an ASM disk group. The current ASM disk group (redundancy normal) had 3 disks : two located in one data center and one disk in another data center. The goal was to replace one voting disk (from the most used Data Center) with one disk coming from a third Data Center.

Oracle RunInstaller crashes while installing Cloud Control 12c on OEL 5.7

By | Database management | 7 Comments

A few days ago I downloaded the Cloud Control 12c binaries for Linux x86_64 from the Oracle Technet.

My friend, Hervé Schweitzer, configured an OEL 5.7 VM for test purpose and I was quite eager to install this new software. I checked the O.S settings, the required parameters, aso …, everything was fine. My OMS repository database (11.2.0.3) was ready. Unfortunately, as soon as I started the installer, it directly crashed.
