Documentum – SSL Certificate based secure communication setup

By | Application integration & Middleware, Enterprise content management | No Comments

Around four years ago, I did a few presentations, here, in Switzerland about “Security & Documentum”. In there, I talked about a lot of different subjects related to both security and Documentum (you guessed it…) like: ciphers, SHA, FIPS & JCE, Documentum & DFC connect mode (characteristics, ciphers, protocols, encryptions, limitations), Documentum & DFC encryptions in transit and at rest (AEK/DBK/LTK/FSK/FEK, TCS, CS Lockbox, D2 Lockbox vs D2 Keystore, Passwords encryption and decryption), and some…

Documentum – Configuration of an IDS Target Memory/RAM usage on Windows

By | Application integration & Middleware, Enterprise content management | No Comments

A few months ago, I had to work on a Windows Server to setup an IDS Target. The installation and configuration of the target wasn’t that different compared to a Linux host, so it wasn’t difficult at all (if you ignore some strange behavior like described here for example). But there was one point for which I was a little bit skeptical: how do you configure the IDS Target Memory/RAM assignment for its JVM? On…

Documentum – RCS/CFS Upgrade in silent fails with IndexOutOfBoundsException

By | Application integration & Middleware, Enterprise content management | No Comments

Several years ago, I wrote a series of blogs regarding the silent installation of Documentum Components, including for a RCS/CFS (HA part of a Repository). In there, I described the process and gave an example of properties file, with all the parameters that are needed and a quick explanation for each of them. As I described in the previous blogs, and that is true for most of Documentum components, in case you want to upgrade…

Documentum – IDS on Windows Server not able to start with error 31: device not functioning

By | Application integration & Middleware, Enterprise content management | No Comments

Documentum Interactive Delivery Services or IDS is a Documentum product that can be useful to publish some documents to an external web server or something similar. It usually works rather well, even if there hasn’t been much changes in the product in years, maybe because it does what it is supposed to do… As a big fan of Linux systems, I pretty much never work on Windows Servers but when I do, somehow, there are…

Migrate Oracle Database 9.2.0.6 to Oracle 19c using GoldenGate

By | Application integration & Middleware, Database Administration & Monitoring, Oracle | 2 Comments

When a customer wanted to take the challenge to migrate an oracle database 9.2.0.6 (the prehistory in the Oracle world) to Oracle 19c using Oracle GodenGate, I saw more problems than add value for different reasons:  Oracle 9.2.0.6 database is out of support (final 9.2 patch was Oracle 9.2.0.8). The customer Operating Systems was AIX 7.4 and only Oracle GoldenGate 11.1.1.1.2 for Oracle 9.2 for AIX 5.3 is available on https://edelivery.oracle.com. The Patch 13606038: ORACLE…

pg_auto_failover: Failover and switchover scenarios

By | Application integration & Middleware | No Comments

In the last post we had a look at the installation and setup of pg_auto_failover. We currently have one primary cluster and two replicas synchronizing from this primary cluster. But we potentially also have an issue in the setup: The monitor is running beside the primary instance on the same node and if that nodes goes down the monitor is gone. What happens in that case and how can we avoid that? We also did…

Documentum – D2 doesn’t load repositories with “Unexpected error occured”

By | Application integration & Middleware, Enterprise content management | No Comments

I had a case today where all Documentum components were up and running, including D2 but while accessing its login page, the repositories wouldn’t appear and a message “An unexpected error occurred. Please refresh your browser” would pop-up in the lower-right corner and disappear quickly. Refreshing the browser or opening a private window wouldn’t do anything. In such cases, of course the first thing to do would be to make sure the docbroker and repositories…
